Episode #225 Hobos On Trains: Your Best Source Of Exposition
Thursday, January 21, 2016 8:09 PM
Again, we have a slight backlog of microphone experimental episodes to get through, so the echo is a bit much, sorry bout that. Like usual we yap for nothing about 10 minutes worth-noting the Civil War trailer, debate friend levels, and watch THREE HEADED SHARK ATTACK.  We skim over Jessica Jones quickly, and i lament […]

Episode #222- I Dunno, You Ensorcelled My Chickens
Thursday, December 17, 2015 8:17 PM
We’re trying different mics and setups to try to eliminate audio issues and it’s not quite right for a while. Stick with us. It’s a rambling beginning, and certainly not one you’ll be entertained by. TechJedi does a small bit on his FLASH watching.  I have to explain the Uncanny Valley to Rev. Eventually we […]

Episode #179 “Goodbye, Apone”
Wednesday, September 03, 2014 9:00 PM
Sep 4 2014 We yap about Raquel Welch for a while. After talking dumb, useless things regarding Egyptian accents and Brendan Fraser, we go into INDIE WEEK! We vist THE GOON, ONE FOR THE ROAD, purely on the strength of Jack Davis, although all they do is wander around. CONAN THE AVENGER 3 shows us devil pigs killing people, and a typical Conan scene based on skipping out on hookers. LOBSTER JOHNSON: GET THE LOBSTER 4-Mechanical arms; cyborg midgets; and Peter Lorre. STAR WARS: REBEL HEIST 3 is a great little book spotlighting Chewie and the living hard drive of dna data. STAR WARS 18 shows us an escalating Battle of Arrochar. UBER 4 Hitler is alive and there’s a cavern they throw the battleship failures in. In CALIBAN 3 Karien attacks while the crew tries to make the ships talk. Creepy and atmospheric and Ennis Weird. STAR TREK: CITY ON THE EDGE OF FOREVER BY ELLISON is a HUGE departure from what we know and very weird and entertaining. UNITED STATES OF MURDER 2-lots of convoluted and complicated plot changes and developments almost make this unreadable. TREES 2 has mystery flowers, and a strategic tree located in Somalia. DOC SAVAGE 6 continues to disappoint us. MORIARTY 4 gives us coup attempts and horrifying medical experiments. BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA 1 is just damn weird, but amusing. SKULLKICKERS 28 humors us with a rescue gone awry and DAY OF DUPERY! MANIFEST DESTINY 7 the true point of the company’s quest is questioned. SAGA 20 gives us killer janitors, brothels, and dance teachers. REVIVAL 21 has the world’s creepiest undead in cremation. THAT’S BECAUSE YOU’RE A ROBOT is this years dumbest. book. Period. OUTCAST is all about posession, with the requisite Kirkman complexities. We end everything with NAILBITER 2, whih gratefully gives us a bully’s come uppance Come check us out on Facebook, twitter @themeanergeek, leave us voicemail at 283 533 4910 and mail us at themeanergeek@gmail.com, and occasionally see what we have to say textually at www.themeangeek.com

We finally et to BATMAN ETERNAL 4-8;likely the only readable Bat-book at this point. Sinestro 2, showing us Thaal getting his Corps back.Secret Origins 2, with a decent Arthur Curry story. Batman 31which i don’t even care about. Detective 31, which has a new drug on the street-almost giving us an actual CRIME for a crime fighter to fight. Astro City 12, detailing the life story of a clothes horse. American Vampire 3, where Skinner seems to have gone to hell;Unwritten 5, with Pauly just wanting to be a happy bunny; The Wake 8, confusing and weird as ever.

Complain about just how many things Bendis seems to be incapable fo finishing. Finally move on to something else with the Hive Minds of Star Slammers 3. Explore the world of Afterlife With Archie 5, featuring the butler’s backstory; Dr. Spektor 1, which bored me terribly. Doc Savage 5, seeing Doc’s org in the future; Doc Savage Annual, featuring the Sea Spider Society; Atomic Robo: Knights of the Golden Circle 1; featuring the fall out of the last storyline in the old west; Hellboy in Hell 6, showing us the cartographers of hell. Veil 3 Mysterious rituals and corporate evil; Uber 12 and 13 in which Stephanie walks around telling about false memories; Maria has been hanging out in a farm, feeding the old farmer couple with candy-vomit. Caliban 2 has tensions rising as crewman tart cacking it. Sovereign 3, which im not talking about. Tales of Honor, in which we find Honor set up to fail. Revival 20, showing us daydreams and shmoos in NYC. We love Velvet 5 while she’s on vacation in 1956, Saga 19 has baby robot born, somehow, by a damned alligator. Starlight 3 gets the characters back on the planet desperate for JUSTICE. Nailbiter 1 shows us an entire town of creepy assed serial killers; Trees give us some really odd, late fifties speculative scifi that i find bizarre and engaging. Skullkickers 27 has the team infiltrating Dwyer to rescue rolf, nearly executed. Star Wars Star Wars Rebel Heist 1 and 2-GREAT serie showing covert ops and the perspective of newbie Rebels, really calling out the best bits of the Star Wars characters. The star Wars is finally over. Finally we cover 4 issues of THE FUSE, which is a much more detailed OUTLAND, but really good.

Episode #175 “It’s Already Gross, So Thanks For That, Ennis.”
Tuesday, August 05, 2014 9:00 PM
Aug 6 2014 I complain about Cliff and Star Wars. We jump STRAIGHT into Indie Week which is always a great big show. We start with Dark Horse and Veil 2; that being a kinda oddish book with some strange rapiness that made us uncomfortable. I hate Rats. I hate ‘em, Jock. We hit some 30’s goodness in Lobster Johnson-Get The Lobster 3, noting that devil dwarves are hard to deal with. Star Wars 16 with local yokels and Leia eats crap for being a woman. Conan the Avenger 1 appears in our list, with a depressed Conan and demon babies. Not the home run we were hoping for. The Star Wars 7 has Vince McMahon playing Vader. Sovereign 2 disappoints on nearly all levels. Revival 19 has people defecating in public, fundamentalist Revivers, and women tied up in tubs. Skullkickers 26 delights us. End of story. Starlight 2 is enjoyable to us, where Duke is guilted into going back to Tantalus. Manifest Destiny 6, giving us lots of plantzombie versions of just about every animal. Uber 11 Sieglinde unleashed! Caliban 1 presents us with aliens_dark horizon_ pastiches; Curse 4 the hell is finally over; Moriarty 3 with delightful convolutedness. We top off with Star Slammers 2.

Episode #174 “When the Blob Steals Your Mutant Fluids, I Sympathize With You.”
Tuesday, July 22, 2014 9:00 PM
July 23 2014 We start with a toast to poor Eli Wallach. Note DC’s changes to creative pay and talk about that for a little; note how much ROM i’ve been reading and the verbosity of Bill Mantlo; TechJedi has a nerd ethics breakdown. Which leads to debating whether a show is better for it’s earnestness than it’s explosions. We eventually get to some Marvels for you. We start with Uncanny 20, where everyone just wants to be Scott Summers; Winter Soldier: The Bitter March 3-with face melting and possible infinity formulas. We digress to chipped beef on toast for a bit. Superior SpiderMan 31-climax of climaxes. Captain America 19 showing us a rather poorly-going battle with Gungir, Helicarrier from Hell. Thor 21, with hits so hard it’s difficult to comprehend. Amazing X-Men 6, party time party time, Kurt being everyone’s favorite. She Hulk 3, where Jen takes on the case of Doom’s Son and the magic of pogo planes. Black Widow 5, twists and turns of the spy nature. All New X-Men 25, an entire issue of Hank Mccoy recriminating. Try out Iron Man 24, Tony taking a walking tour of Svartalfheim. we end with Hulk 1, featuring medical ethics and conspiracy theories

Episode #172 “Jim Gordon is not a Buffy fan-He likes Lee Marvin and Scotch Whiskey”
Wednesday, July 09, 2014 9:00 PM
July 10 2014 There’s a little video game recrimination at The Mean Geek. We have a lot of padding here cause it’s DC Week, Starting with the now-cancelled Superman Unchained 6. Dark Knight 29, with the you have no evidence cliche from The Evil Guy That’s Evil guy. We diverge into 80s Secret Origins topics. Hit Detective 29 where he was all fakin and stuff. Diverge some more into Tick comparisons to The Tick. We then detour into the debate of money making versus quality. We finally get to the drawn out, over convoluted Batman 29. As that’s enough DCU, we go and integrate the Vertigo books from here out. We start with THE ROYALS: MASTERS OF WAR. The Wake 6. Brother Lono. Unwritten: Apocalypse 2-The group gets Tommy back and talks their way out of murder by Rennaiscance Rakes. Astro City 9, cameoing Confessor and an inspirational character that bolsters Winged Victory’s resolve.

Episode #171 “This Book Has Taken A Turn For The Chaykin”
Wednesday, June 25, 2014 9:00 PM
June 26 2014 We’re super late so we go through a quick recap of our FCBD stuff. A lot of pointless rambling, followed by these books: Sovereign 1, a fantasy with zombie monster fish, burial details, and classes of corpse..maintainers? Bad Ass 3, which TJ was unending happy to be past; SkullKickers 25, with the amusing concept of Dwarven Snow Swimmers (rilly). Satellite Sam treats us to a ruined tv episode run by drunks. Astro City 10, A MeanGeek Favorite giving us the stunning conclusion to Winged Victory’s story! Veil 1, Rucka’s new limited joint with mysterious naked women; Sandman Overture 2, with the council of Morphei; Captain Midnight 9, detailing the final showdown with Fury Shark, big violence, and death. The Wake 7 where we’re suddenly in the future with semi truck dirigibles and a strange signal that may save the world. Revival 18 has Possessed dogs, puking blood, grieving widows, and the Shmoo Demon. Starlight 1, a nice piece, uncharacteristically calm and heartfelt for Millar. Tales of Honor 1, a long and text driven adaptation of the Honor Harrington series. StarSlammers Remastered 1, giving us a new look at classic Simonson comic. Afterlife with Archie, 4, in which Arch finally gets to his now zombie parents and his faithful mutt. Uber Special 1 gets us some nice back story to the Battleships. Uber 10 then, gives us the formula for Scotch-fueled superhumans; Sieglinde gets dropped into London by VENGEANCE ROCKET. Lobster Johnson: Get the Lobster 2 with police mad at vigilantes and Nazi dirigibles giving rides to Devil Midget Wrestlers. Unwritten Apocalypse 3 has London filling up with fictional armies and we’re taking bets on who wins out. Curse 3 is reaching a nadir rather than a peak. Serenity 3 gives us 5 pages of dreamscape and renegades and out of character mechanics. Doc Savage 4 is about oil rigs and old pals you’ve pissed off. Star Wars 15 has a long winded argument for royal weddings and Luke screws things up cause he’s jealous. THE STAR WARS 6 has a tense battle but little more. Ending with American Vampire Second Cycle 1 revisits Pearl as she runs a refuge for vamp kids.

Episode #170 “Are Those Like, Evil Wizardy-Oompa Loompas?”
Wednesday, June 11, 2014 9:00 PM
June 12 2014 We failed completely trying to watch 70s Marvel flicks, with Captain America and Dr Strange. We talk a few random treasures found out in the wild, IE, Goodwill stores; Finally get through the pile of trades that came from ECCC. Talk Balder the Brave and Loaded Bible. We note the difficulty in consuming other media because of the volume of comics. Discuss storage methods. We finally get to books with Origin 2 #4; where the theme is the failure to buy sausages; Hulk #20, hangin out in the Beehive. See All New X-Men #24 and the Shi’Ars’ being dumb about the guilt of time traveling adolescents; She Hulk #2, with interview and Drunk Patsy Walker. Ms Marvel 2, in which Kamala start manifesting powers. Winter Soldier-The Bitter March #2, SHIELD and Nazis on a train. Awesome. Amazing X-Men #5, the final fight. Silver Surfer #1, with that Great Slott Science we’ve come to know and love; Thor #20 which seemed a little ham-handed to us with the whole evil-corporation-is-evil routine. Uncanny 1 or 19, I dunno. shopwing just how creepy Mystique can get. Captain Marvel # 1, SO much stronger than the last volume. Hawkeye #s 17-18 old grizzled crime writers and bad tv specials. Superior Spidey 29-30 Pete’s back. ‘Nuff said. Black Widow 4 where she admits to being a spy, but not a hit-woman. Iron Man3 22-23 with more Mandarins than you can shake a circuit board at, and we end books with Captain America 18, with LSD as a weapon murdering Dr Mindbubble. About an hour 10 into the show my mic does some weird stuff and im sorry about that. i have NO idea what happened.

Episode #169 ”I’m Sorry, You Give Me A Lightsabre, Something’s Gonna Go Badly”
Tuesday, May 27, 2014 9:00 PM
May 28 2014 It’s Indie week, and that means huge. We start with Satellite Sam, show of shows and mysteries of mysteries; The Rev piles through WalMart for Batroc figures; argue the precedence of Cap Villains. Slog through teen time cops in Rocket Girl 1; Hit all the Rev’s sweet spots with Manifest Destiny and the terrors from beyond the Western Territories. Adj paraphrases Lovecraft. We hit Lazarus 6, showing us training and fallout from the ranch being lost. Curse 2 has seen us see enough with this book; Doc Savage 3, barely scraping the ethics of immortality; BadAss remains unberated by the Rev, although TJ hates it; that’s all we got till Extinction Parade 5, where the battle finally joins, and we get extensive with the variety of vampire in this book; look through our last issues of God is Dead, Zeus looking for artificial gods. Moriarty Lives 3 give us a hero who doesn’t like his sidekick; Captain Midnight gives us the fate of his sidekick Chuck-whom has gone off with Fury Shark; We’re not sure, frankly, why we even read Serenity: Leaves on the Wind; still 100 percent confused about THE STAR WARS which amuses us with Swamp Solo and floppy disk id cards; finally hit Star Wars with Vader’s Black Ops which was pretty damn cool. Lastly, we hit LOBSTER JOHNSON and demonically possessed professional wrestlers. that’s all we have to say.

Episode #167 “If You Eat Interchangeable Prisoners, You Have Alien 3″
Wednesday, April 30, 2014 9:00 PM
May 1 2014 We watch several episodes of JONNY SOKKO AND HIS FLYING ROBOT, which is all the kaiju you ever need. Go through some memories and how bootlegs work at small shows. We waste a lot of time cause it’s DC week. We look at HARLEY QUINN 2+3; covering the bizarre adventures in landlordship, psychoactive plant based love potions, and various hitmen. We compare French-Canadians with Batroc the Leaper. Talk about the tragedy that is Batman_Superman 7 and 8; that of course devolves into a Dr. T.O. Morrow Science Moment. We move to Dark Knight 26-27, where we have confirmation that Penguin is behind everything. Move to the giant Detective 27 issue, including a neal adams drug trip, a joker origin, and a retired Bats. 28 has the setup for Gothtopia, which seems to have fizzled completely. The boredom makes us switch to Walking Dead tv for a while. We Generally like Batman: Black and White, which has proven a decent series but ended just in time, really. In Batman 27 and 28 we see that Gordon uses the grift to keep himself striaght, which is kinda pushing it. Gothtopia comes back for a second, wearying me. Nearly done with Green Lanter 27, with the reconstruction of HQ on Mogo, which seems smart, although ST. Walker loses his-gasp-hope. We finally read Joker’s daughter without the gimmick, and it was surpisingly good, but thoroughly creepy. Lois Lane 1 has Lucy taking drugs for precisely NO reason and turning all bloodlines on us.

We jump into the Indies, with Manifest Destiny, a neat little book based on screwing with your US ecology and history; Lazarus 5, showing us a montage of Forevers’ training. Velvet 3 wows us like usual, in which a drug dealers boat is stolen, Unwritten: Apocalypse 1 a drug trip straight from the library. Astro City 8 showing us the closing of Winged Victory’s school. Pretty Deadly, just as confusing and convoluted as ever. Saga 18 with the burning house and an unusual bit of mercy from Prince Robot. Revival 17 astounds us with a stash of about one million teeth and crazy girl getting crazier. Star Wars 13, a great issue with Vader creating a black ops squad. Afterlife with Archie entrances us with teh history of the Lodge house and family. Uber 9 shows us it’s an 81 to 1 ration to disable a Battleship. God is Dead 5 finishes the creation of the artificial god, Odin gets taken out. Furious 1 with an actress that loses her temper, badly. Badass 1 disappoints terribly as someone has watched too many hitman movies. Curse 1 takes an aging sporto into the werewolf mythos. Capt Midnight 7 has the President hiring people for Black Sky; Doc Savage 2 introduces Doc’s cousin Patricia, badass in her own right. Buck Rogers 4 closes out the story too quickly and neatly.

If you’ve listened to the show at all you know that we love comics history. It doesn’t get more historical than Stan’s soapbox, text pieces in just about every comics marvel did from 67 to 80. they’ve finally been collected in the really nice volume, Stan’s Soapbox: the collection. This book was put out by the Hero Initiative, a non profit, federally recognized organization designed to help out comic creators in time of need, since the industry usually fucks them early and retirement is often no playground. You should check out their mission at www.heroinitiative.org For those of you that have never read older marvels, Stan would hold court on many many types of issues, often bout comics but frequently about real world issues. to give actual historical context to the soapboxes, the book condenses new stories for every year of the soapbox, which I will handily read out to you as well. Each new cast will be a year’s worth of Stan’s soapbox, so standby for 14 episodes. Having said that, here we go!

Episode #158 “Grodd is free! GET THE GIANT BANANA COSTUME OUT OF STORAGE!”

Friday, January 17, 2014 8:00 PM

January 16 2014 We didn’t like TERMINAL INVASION, the Bruce Campbell airport sci-fi horror flick; watch “STALLED” the zombie movie about bathrooms; talk about the GREAT 2013 TRUE BLOOD CATCHUP marathon. Did you know there was an early 80s Robin Hood on hbo? I buy way too many star wars figures. We finally get to Books with Batman 24, with the bat symbol of red hoods, hilarious; Dark Knight 24, with the ever loving Clayface, and we talk about the merits of trick umbrellas; Beware the Batman 1 a good all ages book; JL 24 our last issue with them; Green Lantern 24 with Hal feeling off in his dialog; Superman_Wonder Woman 1, with a lot of character moment s that never really gelled; with a lot of flashbacks and Doomsday for some reason; Detective 24, the final battle with WRAITH; Batman_Superman 4, the final battle about/for/against the giant magic stone; LOTDK 13, one fast and fun and one slow and silly.

Episode #157 “Dr. Strange is the Marvel Burt Reynolds”

Friday, January 17, 2014 8:00 PM

January 9 2014 I watched Krull; we watch Grabbers together; Talk about THE DOG STARS, a neat little post-apocalyptic thing; talk a lot about old books and start wars novelizations and chaykin art and wow. We get shocked at the strange availability of spirit issues. Once we get to books, we start catching up with Avengers 10, where not nearly enough people get blown up; Avengers 19 and 20 where the big plan is to give up even though Earth kicks everyone’s ass, Trial of the Punisher 1 where Frank turns himself in why precisely? It’s a mystery. Cap 11 with interrogations and a lot of exposition and Nukes starts destroying an anonymous eastern European town. Uncanny Avengers 12 where AHAB, a character I’d never hoped to see again shows up;, Superior Spider-Man, F4 12, Thor 13, Malekith is free! Hulk 13, Where blades can cut time itself; Iron Man 15, a PEPPER suit extravaganza. X-Men: Battle of the Atom 1, with the world’s most oblivious new mutant; All New X-Men, with Jean Grey: Conspiracy Theorist. Episode #156 “Been There, Done That, Didn’t Get Natalie Portman”

Tuesday, December 17, 2013 8:00 PM

December 18 2013 I go off on the horribleness of Sharknado. I bitch about Olivia Munn, The Walking Dead video game, and No More Room In Hell. Reminisce about Charlton comics and watch a documentary of people going to find Frankenstein’s monster in the arctic. After that boredom we talk about The Wake 3 and 4; with the mers attacking, en masse, and some exposition about Dutchmen that dress like Thulsa Doom. Star Wars 9, where Leia discovers the secret of the alderaanian tree; look at Baltimore: The Infernal Train, with Budapest under twin plagues of Vampires and disease; Takio finally showed up, and we loved it. We’ll tell you no more. Saga 14, with their standard 4 plot threads all weaving toward each other with aplomb and style; Rat Queens, a fun book with swearing, girls, blood and assassins. Revival 14, where the shmoos seem to want to inhabit Jordan’s body. Zero seemed pretty solid initially, but on second perusing turns…bleh, standard, needing novelty. Sidekick 2, a fumbled seduction centers this book where Flyboy is enlisted by Cowl’s girlfriend. Uber 5, Britain finally joins in the fray with Ubers of their own when Sieglinde and the PanzerMenchen tear up Paris. We experiment with God Is Dead, one of Hickman’s own; Yahweh is conspicuously absent from this issue. Sex Criminals, a Fraction joint that belies its title; Reality Check 1, desperately in need of novelty and snappy dialog; Brother Lono 4, complex, violent, creepy and spooky all at once. Astro City 4 with MIND OVER MATTIE. A great tale of ass kickers choosing to do something else. Satellite Sam 3, with quickies, the preacher’s backstory, and who was with the old man! Captain Midnight 3, Death by polar bear. nuff said. Lazarus 2 and 3-the grand political meanderings and in fighting and hints at intimacy between Forever and the other Lazarus.

Episode #155 “You Talk To Alison Blair Now. Have A Dazzling Time”

Wednesday, December 11, 2013 8:00 PM

December 12 2013 We talk a tiny tiny bit about Techjedi’s video gaming; (his nephews beat the shit out of him) watch The Mole Men of Belmont Avenue. Finally getting to books we look at the following. We talk the molting members of the Fantastic Four in FF 11, our last issue of that; In All New X-Men 15 Kitty and old Bobby make just about everyone nervous, especially with her complete lack of responsibility in telepathic privacy; so they go to a fair. Uncanny Avengers 11 has the Bopsy Twins trying to manipulate Wanda, while Dark Sentry pounds Thor. We get a triple threat with Uncanny X-Men 9-10-11, with Dazzler doing a poor job of being a SHIELD agent; Eva and Illyana do some training, while Maria Hill and Magneto have a tete a tete. Moving on to Superior Spider-Man 15 and 16, The Tinkerer, Ty Stone, Phil Urich, all competing to kill or exploit Spider-Man, culminating in the reappearance of GOBLINITA! Avengers 17 and 18 With Superia stealing the Perth droid/robot whatever; Cap goes to Mars to get Abyss and Ex Nihilo; The conglomerate Armada fails to beat the builders; New Avengers 9, with way to many plot threads. Iron Man 14, where Tony kinda disappoints me but what could he do? Indestructible Hulk 11 and 12 where time is broken and irritates me. Cap 10, Where Sharon sets up Cap’s escape from Zolaland. Thor 11 and 12 Current Thor finally kills Gor in an amazing way that blows our minds; Thor walks the earth like Kane.

Episode #154 “Ill Defined Alien Menace: A Comic Book Staple”

Tuesday, December 03, 2013 8:00 PM

December 4 2013 We finally get around to looking at the DC special cover-y thing month thing stuff jobbers. Remember the lack dialog in the hobbit; recant the tale of the nycc disaster that was my knees; we finally get to some books, with Green Lantern 23-escaped lanterns and a lack of skill in the newbs; Superman Unchained 3, where Supes is briefed on Wraith, Lois ruins the infrastructure, and there is the threat of a new kind of drone. Batman-Superman 3, where everyone’s pissy at each other and the NSA is growing a new crystal thingamabob. Batman 23 has the Hoods beating the crap out of Bruce and sets fire to everything, and a poor hallucinatory and or cgi bat instead of a real bat. LOTDK 11 has a Calendar Man story from 5 perspectives; Dark Knight 23 turned out to be a pretty good Clayface story. Detective 23 gives us more wrath, where business can’t be done without sparring, and the lack of knowledge of electricity. Looking at the lenticulars we cover Deadshot, Ivy, Sinestro, Doomsday, Darksied, Ventriloquist, Joker; Hit Batman Black and White 1, with Neal Adams tripping balls and commenting on the legal system.

Episode #153 “All We Know About Wedge Antilles Was That He Could Not Be Killed”

Monday, November 18, 2013 8:00 PM

November 19 2013 In this episode we note that is argue. Shock there. Especially about movie adaptations, mentioning costumes and power armor and zombies etc. I mention some Agents of Shield’s pilot. Which I’ve already stopped. Spend a lot of time discussing how shield works. Eventually we get to books, starting with Uber 4, with Stephanie revealing the Ubermensches’ secrets and weaknesses. Saga 13 with a small break from crazy action, except for the bone bugs. Revival 13 where everyone is now dating each other; Satellite Sam 2, where everyone pretty much just jockeys for position; Sidekick 1, with the travails of kicking for heroes-which brings us to a small discussion on kicks growing up; BPRD VAMPIRE 5, which had Trevor as a hero we like, but a creepy ghost psycho girl. Captain Midnight 1 and 2 surprise us and TJ has a lot of fun aside from the shadow pastiche; Brother Lono 3, which just has too much to say; Lobster Johnson Scent of Lotus 2, where the tong send monkeys to fuck lobsters’ world UP YO. Chaykin’s Buck Rogers, which wow, really hews close to the novel. Itty Bitty Hellboy 1, which was cute but didn’t make us laugh; Lady Rawhide 1, a lean direct origin with a little action. Star Wars 8, where i question the diversionary ethics of Luke and wedge’s escape. Astro City 3-the call center issue, Trillium 1; which had a great start till time travel came into it.

Episode #152 “That’s Not Really A Big-Girl Job, Kate”

Tuesday, November 05, 2013 8:00 PM

November 6 2013 In this episode we wonder about more DC decisions, like Maggie and Kate; talk about some trades we read; Jump into books with Hawkeye annual 1; Hawkeye 12, where Bart starts fight with the bro-bros.We find out that the Rev’s lectures are right. We talk F4witht skrulls at the Declaration; question the ethics of turning sentients into non sentients. Talk Cap issue 9, with the inagadadavida drum solo arc; Indestructible Hulk 10; where dd and hulk team up against the AGENCE BYZANTINE; Thor 10 with what I creatively call the THORIORS THREE, scattered, trapped and near dead, Thor has the Alpha Centauri sized balls to start SMACKING A BOMB. X-Men 14 has illusions, a fun romp with lots of crazy psychic stuff. Here comes Iron Man 12 and 13- wherein we realize that Howard is cooler than anyone. The GodKiller is revealed as Tony’s true purpose. Uncanny X-Men 8 has Goldball leaving, being surveiled, a new guy in a ham handed scene with cops and a terrible statement on discrimination. The Cuckoos develop some traits for once; Avengers 15 and 16, with a lot of monsters to fight and superia and aim and origin bombs; nightmask lectures starbrand; the space knights return; talk New Avengers 8, invasions, talking, and randomness. Superirois Spider Man 13 and 14, continuing the battle of the raft and ock’s brutality really coming through;and finally Superior Spider Man Team up with a pretty standard oh-i-thought-you-went-bad no-i-was-fighting-possessed-people routine.

Episode #151 “Batman Has Gone From Sherlock Holmes to Mike Hammer”

Monday, October 28, 2013 9:00 PM

October 29 2013 Episode #151 In this episode we remember books from Comic-Conn, 7 soldiers of Victory, Sweet-Tooth, Astro City: The Dark Age, and are NOT happy with our movie choices. Rev likes Terminal City and leave it to chance; talk about our toilet reading, and no, that’s not a euphemism. We recap Micronauts and their history, Some Bwahahah Justice League; we finally get into some DCs with GL 22, mysterious ring failures and noobs and all; Justice League 22, with a final full issue book; Superman Unchained, which we can’t decide if it’s silver agey goodness or just out and out goofiness; Batman 66 #1, which is desperate to be silver agey but is neither fun nor funny; Batman/Superman 2, with trickster gods-SUCH A NEW CONCEPT-dopplegangers and more; Dark Knight 22, which is a nice Clayface story; Batman and….22, with more Carrie Kelly, the hipsters hero; Legends of the Dark Knight 10, with some really kooky names we think might have been typos; Detective 22 with the new rich villain in town double crossing everyone; Batman 22, where I really, really dislike a petulant Bruce so over the edge he would snap at Alfred.
